Escola Bernardí Tolrà

Bernardí Tolrà School is a public school (130 pupils from 3 to 12 years old and 15 teachers) located in Vila-rodona, a village in Catalonia (Spain).

We are really interested in involving our community as European citizens so that since some years ago we try to be involved in different European Projects. We participated a Comenius Project (2013–2015) about environment called “Water Cycle around Europe” and an Erasmus+ KA219 project (2017-2019) called “Once upon a time…European children all together” related to
reading comprehension.

To establish links with other European Schools we have done different eTwinning projects every year. For us it’s very important that children feel they belong to a big community as the European Union. ETwinning projects and Erasmus+ are a good opportunity to share experiences and know different cultures.
Our school has been always involved in projects related to environment. From 2006 we are an ecoschool that is a label that Catalan government gives to the schools who are really implicated of taking care of environment. We have been selected to
support other schools to help them start being an ecoschool and during last 15 years we received 10 environmental prizes from Institut d’Estudis Vallencs.
During 2019 we have received a reward from the Generalitat de Catalunya, and several awards related to nature and science. We join scientific research projects in different universities. We also celebrate an eco week with activities related to a topic such as recycling, pollution, water, climate change. As we live in a privileged environment,we have the chance to work in our surroundings in a really natural and real way. Our pupils are from different social contexts and origins (30% aprox. of our pupils have Moroccan nationality). It is richness but sometimes a difficulty for the learning process.Nowadays there are some social differences among pupils. Some of them have a lot of experiences with their families but a part of our pupils only have the opportunity to live these experiences at school.
We try to work and do activities in a collaborative way, both teachers and pupils. So a project as an Erasmus+ has huge impact in all school community including pupils, teachers, families, administrations and the whole village. We are happy take part in this project because our pupils are interested and worried about environment but we think that belonging to a huge project like this will be the best way to be conscious adults.Children of today are the future.
